Overall a very good course in solar power. As a design engineer, I have designed many homes with solar grid tie systems with battery back ups. A better explanation could have been provided for Grid Tie system. More mathematical examples should also be provided in course material.

I believe the course needs a little updating for 2021, and should go into more detail on the technical differences between standard grid tie inverters and AC coupled grid tie inverters. Some discussion of how to handle roof's which are not oriented north-south would be useful, and a section on micro-inverters, benefits, disadvantages, and design with should be included.

Very solid course. Couple of minor suggestions:
Page 33 Step 6 Please clarify why the subsequent battery system does not match the design. It was a little confusing.
Page 34 Step 7 May want to add a bit more info to be clear where the 6.06Amps came from and that the solar panels are 24Volts. Too many assumptions must be made by the reader. Also, the reason for sizing the charge controller is per NEC 125% wiring rating requirement.

I would recommend looking at Test Q #5 that cites "any solar PV system design" not just Grid Tied. So it would logically include an off-grid system and the answer would be different.

There were definitely some redundancies from Part 1 of the series. I thought there was much less new material for this portion. Also, the formula is incorrect on page 24. If you are reducing the bill by 20%, you should be calculating 80% of the overall usage, not 20%.

This course is notable well written. It is conversational, interesting and comprehensive. Unfortunately the engineering component is meager and often in error. The writer understands volts and amps, but not watts for series and parallel connections. Per the Test, he is oblivious to requirements for Building Permits. I would rate the overall course as excellent - but warn that you must bring your own professional judgement.

Useful step-by-step development including the options and pitfalls awaiting someone making their first attempts at solar power. A strong electrical background is not required. After two readings, it even made sense to a Civil Engineer.

Pretty Good, Some ambiguity
The course was pretty good. I have been researching solar for years and recently had a grid tied system installed (no batteries). I think some of the information was a little ambiguous, where one of the questions basically said in order to have an emergency backup system you needed a special inverter. You can have an ATS and utilize a backup generator and the inverter should come back online and sync to the generator. Also, one of the battery sizing questions was answerable, but was ambiguous regarding whether one would double the watt-hour sizing.

This was a good overview course of various configurations of solar power systems. It is not a detailed design course, which is OK for its purpose.
The author should check the number of panels required calculations on page 32 and the answer to Q24.

I think that for a four hour course, the content was suitable, not too general, but hit on some important specifics. As a EE with 30 years of experience, I could definitely relate more to the specific technical descriptions and examples then generalities. I think additional more focused classes would be attractive to me.

Very well presented and worth the time - currently evaluating PV solar system design for existing passive solar home. The Grid-Tie system is appropriate for future circumstances anticipated. May be converted to Independent Off-Grid system in the future as well.
