I believe the course did a good job of creating scenarios that would generate thoughtful review of the Code of Ethics. However, some of the scenarios and some of the questions did not fully describe the situation or the rationale, so there were questions regarding which answer would be correct, because there was grey area that could not be answered. I understand this is part of the intent. My biggest concern is the complete lack of response on the test results. If you did not get 10/10 correct, which one (ones) did you miss, and why. Unless you can close the loop on why, you will not fully learn.

The course material consisted of a) Description of 10 hypothetical cases, b) A copy of the NSPE Code of Ethics, and c) Test questions 1-10, each of which was a multiple choice referring, sequentially to eachthe 10 cases in a) above. So in effect the 10 cases were actually part of of the test, and the only real information provided was a reproduction of the NSPE Code of Ethics. I feel that a PDH course should provide more to a student that just reproducing the Code of Ethics of a professional society. Generally speaking I am a big fan of SUNCAM's PDH courses and I have used them almost exclusively during the pandemic shutdown.

The course wasn't quite what I expected. I thought there would be more presentation. It was only a little more than a self-directed learning experience. But it required that one read the NSPE Code of Ethics, which is a good thing. And the Case studies were well thought out and pertinent. Mr. Dunn did very well at gleaning the information from the NSPE CoE , putting it into the case studies, and making one THINK. I didn't think the questions were tricky, but you need to go back and re-read the CoE to get the right answer.

Excellent case studies. Justwonderting though, if it woulod be more accurate in case study 4, to use "sub-surface" instead of "subsoil". After all... where exactly is subsoil? That could be anywhere from bedrock to the earth's core. Also, the case notes are silent regarding Mildred's qualifications to delineate wetlands. It may only be her unqualified opinion, after seeing things like cattails and swamp. Just saying...
I say subsoil and subsurface are interchangeable except subsurface can refer to lots of things that are not soil. Mildred's qualifications are succinctly stated as "PE". There is nothing in the case study that suggests that she lacks the qualifications to make the determination.

The course covers a lot of ground. There are some nuanced situations, especially the sales engineer's comparisons and the Daughter/Father company. That said, in Texas, the use of IRC/IBC and ASCE -7 codes seems to be unethical. GOVERNMENT officials tell me that they have 'no authority' to require agencies and entities to use current code. My opinion is that expired code is void,and entities that are requiring use of expired code are acting unethically by requiring engineers to do so. Your opinion on this??

Very good and interesting. I wrestled with Simon's case in that there were two "No" answers; both of which could be considered ethically questionable and both involved a conflict of interest. I picked the wrong one. Would the situation be different if Simon had moonlighted as a waiter in a restaurant for instance without disclosing it to his employer?

However, it would be good to give an explanation at the beginning of the case studies that the test would be to determine if the actions in the case studies were ethical or unethical based on the NSPE Code of Ethics. One small point: Many of the test questions offer an answer choice that reads something like "all aspects of this case adhere to ethical conduct..." when perhaps it could be better stated that "(the engineer) adheres to ethical conduct..." since some of the scenarios put the engineer in a situation where others are acting improperly.

The test was did a good job of presenting challenging situations where the answers, at first glance, we not so easy. The class does well to show the gray area in ethics, rather than presenting easy black and white scenarios.

It would be a little better test if the No choice selection was worded closely as found within the Code and not referenced to the individual. It was still a 4 star test. BTW, I believe Ohio now requires 2 hours of Ethics for engineers renewal.

While thought provoking, the scenarios do not contain the detail to sufficiently determine the the correct answer expected by the author. The one answer I got incorrect could have been answered by two of the choices with the details given in the scenario. Upon reading the question after the test, I discovered an inconsequential phrase that in light of the correct answer determined which answer was actually correct.;

Good Course, Some of the cases give pause. The one I "missed" is because I'm not sure that being on a board of directors make you an Officer of a corporation. EG. Roger Millikin of Milliken carpeting was on the BOD of Westinghouse Electric. I don't think he was a corporate officer.
Good point. We have revised that question to eliminate the ambiguity.

Quite interesting. This course really makes you think. Most of the answers were not straight forward from the text nor from the code of ethics. A lot of thought with myself was required. I thought question 3 which I got wrong could have been....
