Course Description
COURSE OBJECTIVE
Although many can benefit, three specific groups are targeted with the following goals.
• Provide a practicing Professional Engineer (PE) with the information or refresher on theory, rules (requirements), practical applications, and electrical specification results or provide for the engineer assigned to a related job with the minimum knowledge to properly evaluate the design and testing of a system.
• Provide a practicing Engineer with the requisite knowledge to adequately review and analyze designs and testing for compliance with goals and requirements.
• Provide a licensed Electrician with an understanding to be able to assess impacts on systems for installation or design changes, and proper safe operation.
Installation and design basics are covered along with the theoretical background, where applicable, that should enable the engineer to understand the potential impacts of a new design, alteration, maintenance, or overhaul on ship electrical systems. More importantly, completion this course will provide the minimum requisite knowledge to perform various tasks of design, including ensuring that such systems are sized, built, tested and maintained; and the appropriate requirements are met, all while working in a safe manner. While some may consider the information limited, terse for those with more knowledge, it is meant to provide an overview of requirements for those not use to designing equipment for floating platforms all while inserting enough references for more detailed study.
Focus will be on the basics of knowledge given that truly understanding the basics along with the ability to accomplish tasks safely is the best path. All the best.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of this course will be on the unique requirements of electrical systems on board a ship. The purpose being to provide enough information for one to understand the impacts of any replacement, alteration, overhaul, or design of an electrical system or piece of equipment. And, where required, provide additional sources of information.
NOTE
Access to any basic theory book (see the References) is helpful but is not required for completion of the course(s).
