This is an excellent project management course. I like the way the different sections are broken down and explained in a way that is easy to understand. There is some repeat from the Foundations of PM course, which can be reinforcing, but also can be boring. He takes a while to explain some of the math, which is dull for me because I understand it right away, but perhaps helpful for others that have a harder time understanding it. Overall though, I think the course is very valuable and a great help for project managers and those thinking about becoming project managers.

The best thing that was taught was to evaluate where to spend more money to shorten the total time to do the project. The other item, that was also very important, was that you must evaluate how much money you spend versus HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WILL SAVE.
I WILL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE. We were doing a major concrete project in a large building that was a major "Pump Station". At the same time, they were doing repairs to the equipment, since the "Pump Station" was not in service. The concrete had to be poured, and reach a compression value of greater than 3,000 PSI by Monday, 21 days after we started the project, or we would have to PAY $3,500 per day for each day that we were late, since the "Pump Station" could not be back in service until the concrete reached a minimum of 3,000 PSI compressive strength.
We were running very far behind. We were getting ready to pour the concrete on Friday morning, ONLY 3 days before we would had to start paying $3,500 per day until our concrete reached the minimum compression strength on 3,000 PSI. It would normally take a minimum of 7 days, even if you purchased concrete with a compressive strength of 6,000 psi in 28 days,to reach a compressive strength of 3,000 PSI. in 7 days.
The Pump Station crew were not working any overtime since they thought we would be 4-6 days late! They were counting on us paying $3,500 per day that we were late, or about a minimum of $14,000,so WE WOULD BE PAYING FOR THEM TO ALSO BEING LATE TO COMPLETE THEIR WORK!
How did we solve the problem? First,we called the concrete supplier to see if they had concrete that we could purchase that would reach a minimum of 3,000 PSI compression in only 2 days. They had a concrete "DESIGN MIX" that would reach the 3000 PSI compression in 2 days, based on actual past test results. IT ONLY COST US AN EXTRA $800! SECOND, WE HAD TO PAY AN EXTRA $300 FOR THE TEST LAB TO PICK UP THE CONCRETE SAMPLES ON SATURDAY, AND THEN DO THE COMPRESSION TESTS ON BOTH SATURDAY LATE AFTERNOON,AND THEN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE CONCRETE HAD AN AVERAGE COMPRESSION OF 3,210 PSI TESTING 3 SAMPLES ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE TEST RESULTS WERE FAXED TO BOTH THE PUMP STATION MAIN OFFICE AND US ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
We went to the Pump Station with the test results to prove that we meet our contract requirement. We packed up our equipment, and removed the concrete formwork.
It cost us an extra($800 + $300)$1,100, BUT IT SAVED US OVER $1200. We did just what the Technical Side of Project Management is teaching, LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SPEND TO SAVE! N

Enjoyed the course material. Only thing I didn't like is I swear the video would skip here and there and it would be during a section where he was explaining an answer to one of the questions. What a pain! And I have DSL. Also it might be better to break the video up into smaller pieces. I'd be curious to know how many people sit thru 3hr 24min of continuous video.
SunCam Response: Several thousand people have completed this course but we have no way of knowing how many used streaming vs DVD. Our streaming video player was designed to allow starting and stopping while remembering your place between sessions (regrettably, this feature is not yet available for the version that plays on smartphones).
Our streaming video, like NetFlix etc, matches the delivery stream rate to your system's available bandwidth. If your available bandwidth decreases during delivery (a common problem for a shared internet connection) the system switches to a lower delivery rate and sometimes skips a few frames.
When possible, I always recommend watching the streaming video and completing the test worksheet BEFORE purchasing the course just to be sure that you will be happy with the results.

Slide 25 Forward Pass Rules, last rule - Largest preceding EF at a merge point becomes ES (Early Start) for successor
a point of interest - when discussing "Crashing a Project" and changing the durations of current (baseline) critical path activities, you might mention that the duration change of a critical activity can actually change the critical path, limiting the usefulness or magnitude of the duration change.

This is not really a criticism it was a mechanical error that I did not catch. I answered the first question False which was correct. I hit the down arrow key to scroll down, it changed my answer to True, and then I scolled down with the scroll down bar (not the right name I am sure) that is on the right hand side of the screen. Since I had already double check each of my answers as I proceeded, I did not go back and review the test from the beginning. In doing so, I would have made 100% vs 93% So, I have learned to do so in the future. Thank you.

An excellent speaker exhibiting highly polished verbal communication skills thoghout the entire presentation, but course content prepared by this instructor was overly simplistic with limited depth and the presentation paced awkwardly slow. So much more useful contnet on subject could have been conveyed in much shorter or equal time. Course content was not geared to even undergraduate level students, and perhaps not even high school students in certain areas. Disappointingly, the course content is not up to Penn State's typically high standards that most people have come to expect. Again, the instructor is extremely good, extremely effective in his delivery; it is just a matter of what he selected to deliver was unexpectantly weak in content. This is no shortcoming of SunCam. I urge SunCam to give the instructor a second chance to develop a follow-on future course. There is little doubt the instructor has the abilities and requisite expertise to do so.

Dragged a bit at the beginning, but overall was very informative and outlined measures to check and cross check project progress using two or more means of evaluation. The development for EVM also indicated that it gave a progress check means using inter-relations of performance, cost and schedule. I liked that the multiple "tools" can be used independently to study focused areas of the progress.
I really enjoy Dr Pinto's style of presentation. It is a good mix of (borderline boring) statistical-type evaluation methods with "real-life" points of view, to bring the boring numbers to life and illustrate how "checking the numbers" can give an accurate prediction of a project life in terms of schedule and cost.

011-The Technical Side of Project
The "011-The Technical Side of Project" course was interesting and valuable. I appreciated the mention of examples of project management problems at AirBus and NASA. I suggest the inclusion of more examples in future versions of this course. In my opinion, examples make the course more relevant and bring the course objectives home in a more meaningful way.
Please improve the SunCam web site. The way that customers access and finally are able to take courses (at least customers like me that use a voucher) is extremely user-unfriendly. I had to ask for assistance from SunCam representatives both time times that I used my voucher this year. It is a guessing game to finally make it to checkout and it takes re-entering personal information multiple times. Taking steps on the web site that seem logical just cause personal information to be deleted. I can understand how customers could easily become frustrated and disatisfied and consider using a different provider - which would be a shame since SunCam offers great P.E. license renewal courses.
SunCam Response: The Prepaid Training Voucher program is a new offering from SunCam that is intended to make it easier for employers to pay for employee training. Vouchers have been used successfully by hundreds of our customers and we are continuing to improve the program to enhance the customer's experience.

Duplicates Course 008
1.) Too much overlap with Course 008 2.) Poor video editing and match-up with speaker at 1:44:53 to 1:45:09. 3.) Speaker also gets tongue-tied during this example 4.) Mistake on slide #24 - "Largest preceding EF at a merge point becomes EF for successor" should be "Largest preceding EF at a merge point becomes ES for successor." (Video is correct, as is the same slide (#47) in Course 008. 5.) Moving "Twilight Zone" backgrounds are a distraction -- too much Hollywood.
