More of a comment than a review, and that is that I hope that the point is made that the discipline of Fire Protection Engineering is not by any means a subset of Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering, as many Mechanical and Plumbing engineers tried to tell me when I first became involved as a Fire Sprinkler Contractor, later taking the exam and passing to become a PE in Fire Protection Engineering. Other than using conduits that happen to be circular in cross section, there is nothing in common between Plumbing /Mechanical Engineering and Fire Protection Engineering. Nothing.

This is a MUST for all engineer's. If you are not involved with fire protection design, you will have a fantastic overview after taking this course. The course document is well organized and written making it clear that Mr. Messina is an expert. The test has solid questions - questions that are not a simple keyword search in the course PDF.

What Every Engineer Should Know about Fire Protection
Good overview of the systems, Not a FP engineer but I am involved in projects where Fire Hazard Analysis with Probable Risk Analyis are required. A couple test questions are not covered but are common sense if you are exposed to FP design and/or familiar with federal law governing sprinkler usage.

Good Refresher, plus some new concepts (to me anyway). As a mechanical engineer In the Air Force, I was the Base Fire Marshal at my last assignment, and went to a 40 hour in-residence course. That course 25 years ago, and spent a lot of time on aircraft crash rescue and fuel storage. This course brought back things I forgot I knew, and of course, had updated information. It did what continuing education is supposed to do.

I think this provided good coverage of the subject. Some of the test questions really make you think hard about how to apply the concepts. I would like to have seen some more examples given in section 9 to summarize the materials as that would have been useful to look back on latter on.
